BLADELESS INTRALASE LASIK

BLADELESS INTRALASE LASIK

LASIK technology continues to make great strides as research becomes more in-depth and the medical industry learns more about the principles behind this amazing procedure. At Advanced Eye & Laser Center of California, Inc., our eye care team understands how important it is to offer our San Diego patients an incredible vision-restoring procedure that is not only safe and effective, but comfortable and painless. In keeping with our commitment to improve the patient experience everyday, we now offer Bladeless LASIK using the IntraLase laser to enhance your results and your comfort level while minimizing your risk.

Traditionally, a handheld blade called a microkeratome was used to create the corneal flap in the first stage of the LASIK procedure. Progressive practices like Advanced Eye & Laser Center of California, Inc. have found a better way to create the corneal flap safely with the help of the incredible IntraLase technology. The use of a laser to create the corneal flap means better surgical control, enhanced precision, and a smaller window of error. Your LASIK is now more customized, depending on the unique characteristics of your corneas.

Now, patients who may have been dissuaded by the thought of a blade incision can rest easy knowing that our LASIK procedure is 100% bladeless. IntraLase LASIK also allows for a greater range of candidates, including those with thin corneas who may not have been approved for microkeratome LASIK. Results studies of the Bladeless LASIK technique also show increased chances of achieving 20/20 vision, higher comfort level, better overall vision, faster recovery and reduced incidence of dry eye and other side effects.

The integration of Bladeless LASIK is just one more step in our mission to provide truly Custom LASIK to every patient. Every step of your procedure is completely customized, from diagnosis and evaluation to flap creation, to LASIK laser treatment using Wavefront mapping and the VISX STAR S4 Laser.

Here’s what you can expect during your Bladeless LASIK procedure:

  • The IntraLase laser is targeted at the corneal area to be treated. In just a few seconds, tiny pulses of cool laser light form a microscopic layer of bubbles beneath the surface of the eye.
  • The thickness and size of this microscopic layer is predetermined with the help of a sophisticated technological mapping process. The computer data is transferred to the IntraLase® laser, and the corneal flap is created in a painless and quick process.
  • The cornea is reshaped with the VISX STAR S4 Laser in a matter of seconds for instantaneous vision correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism.
  • The corneal flap is gently set back in place to start the healing process immediately with no stitches. Because the corneal flap was created with the precision of a laser instead of the handheld microkeratome, a seamless fit and improved healing process is ensured.
