Why an Ophthalmologist Could or Should Do Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Many people believe the eyes are the most important features of the face. Most people notice your eyes before any other part of your body since that is where your character shines through. A skilled eye surgeon knows more about the functions and a potential disorder of your whole eye than anyone else does, including sagging and drooping eyelids. There is no reason you cannot entrust blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, to your ophthalmologist. After all, nobody knows your eyes as well.
Although most people visit their ophthalmologist to treat their vision problems, such as myopia, presbyopia, or astigmatism, many people also have problems with their eyelids getting in the way of proper eye function. Eye doctors are inherently interested in providing you with aesthetically appealing eyewear, why should they not also be able to do minor cosmetic procedures to help the appearance of your eyes as well.
Blepharoplasty is a common procedure that any doctor can perform. Of course, you want to choose a physician who has successfully performed the procedure before. At Advanced Eye & Laser Center of California, Inc., Dr. Huynh, and his team have performed thousands of procedures in their Southern California clinic. You let your general practitioner make decisions about your over all health, why not let your ophthalmologist help you with a comprehensive treatment plan for your eyes.
To find out more about the benefits of blepharoplasty and how it might fit your overall vision needs, please contact Advanced Eye & Laser Center of California, Inc. and schedule an initial consultation today.

LASIK Age Requirements
There are many considerations to consider when looking at LASIK for your vision correction needs. The FDA approved the lasers for Custom LASIK for use on people over 18 years old and there is really no upper limit on receiving surgery. Your overall health and the health and condition of your eye are best determined by a qualified laser eye specialist.
Some considerations that Dr. Huynh will discuss during your consultation include:
- Age
- Healthy corneas
- Thick enough corneas
- Good general health
Your eyes continue to change through out your life. Young eyes are not fully developed and might change after LASIK surgery, which might require future vision correction in just a few short years. In some cases, a physician may conclude that an eye is developed enough that LASIK is beneficial.
The FDA does allow what they call off-label consideration for patients younger than 18 if the surgeon determines that LASIK would be beneficial. Some pediatric patients under age 18 have seen good results after the LASIK procedure.
As you age, other eye conditions may preclude LASIK surgery. If you have glaucoma or macular degeneration, which are typically age related eye disorders, would contraindicate LASIK surgery.
Southern California eye surgeon, Dr. Huynh is qualified to evaluate your eyes to see if LASIK would be beneficial. To find our more, please contact Advanced Eye & Laser Center of California, Inc. today and schedule an appointment.

Jobs That May Require LASIK
There are many occupations that require good vision, such as airplane pilots, professional sports, and astronauts to name a few. Unfortunately, many people suffer from vision problems that may put these careers out of reach. Glasses and contacts may help, but they are bulky and unreliable under the rigors these jobs demand.
Glasses frequently fall off, get dusty, or become misplaced. Contacts are somewhat better, but losing one during an intense activity can cause serious complications. A better option, and more permanent option, is vision correction with Custom LASIK surgery, the latest in laser eye surgery.
LASIK is used to correct most vision problems experienced by most people, including:
- Hyperopia
- Myopia
- Astigmatism
- Presbyopia
Even if you are not seeking a career in a high performance type field, you can also improve your vision and finally get rid of your glasses or contact lenses. LASIK can improve your vision if you drive trucks, play golf, or even teach school without the headache of eyeglasses.
To find out more about how LASIK surgery may be able to help you improve your vision to pursue the career you always wanted, please contact Advanced Eye & Laser Center of California, Inc. and schedule an initial consultation.

LASIK and the Military
Many young men and women of the military, like young men and women everywhere, suffer from vision problems that can be corrected with LASIK vision correction surgery. However, they must have approval before undergoing this type of surgery. While having LASIK is acceptable in all the branches of service for most military careers, there are some that are excluded.
Having LASIK prior to enlistment or commission my disqualify you from some of the higher level, or cutting edge parts of the service. Navy Seals and divers, and other similar skill areas used to require perfect vision naturally with no vision correction, but now allow PRK. LASIK is still a disqualifier in Special Forces. Pilots have been allowed to undergo LASIK since 2007. If you are interested in joining the military, LASIK should not keep you out of service to your country.
If you are currently serving in the military and want to undergo vision correction, you will have additional considerations in addition to what civilians have. You must be a good candidate to receive the surgery and you must not be in a job that would prohibit you from getting the surgery. It is important to consult with your branch of service to learn about what restrictions you have, if any. In addition, the risks involved may affect disability benefits should you elect to have the surgery and suffer complications.
To find out more about LASIK and the military regulations regarding the procedure while you are serving, please contact Advanced Eye & Laser Center of California, Inc. Check with your chain of command to ensure that you do not negatively affect your military career by electing LASIK vision correction. If LASIK is not available, there may be other acceptable vision correction options.

Reading Glasses versus LASIK
One of the surest signs of aging is when you can no longer read the pages of a book or a computer screen easily without moving your head or holding your arms stretched out in front of your face. At some point in your life, you may suffer from aged eyes, scientifically known as presbyopia. Presbyopia may occur by itself as your eyes age, or may appear in conjunction with other vision problems like hyperopia or even myopia, which are caused by changes in the shape of the eye.
Most people deal with near vision problems by going to the corner drugstore and getting a pair of reading glasses. The presence of presbyopia in addition to your other vision problems may require the use of bifocal lenses. That option is fine for some people, but advancement in laser eye surgery have made Custom LASIK surgery a desirable option for many who want to give up on reading glasses or bifocal lenses.
The first LASIK procedure was performed in 1998 and since then, millions of people have benefited from the surgery. In most cases, though not all, people are finally able to give up their reading glasses.
Presbyopia is a hardening or stiffening of the natural lens of your eye. When this happens, your eye no longer accommodates, or focuses effectively and corrective measures must be taken. LASIK cannot correct this vision problem and you may end up with glasses later in life.
To find out about LASIK and how it can help you get rid of your reading glasses, please contact Advanced Eye & Laser Center of California, Inc. to schedule an initial consultation.

Spider Vein Treatment
Laser Procedure for Spider Veins
There are several options for spider vein treatment. Most of them utilize the use of a laser beam. A highly concentrated beam of light passes through the skin sending pulses of energy on the target without causing any damage to surrounding tissue. As the problem area absorbs the light, the vein heats up and shrinks eventually disappearing completely. No incisions or injections are necessary. The treatment can take as little as 20 minutes depending on the severity and size of the affected area. More than one session may be necessary to completely eliminate all spider veins.
Laser Vein Removal Recovery
Patients can expect some mild swelling in the treated area for a few days after the procedure. Compression stockings can aid in a speedier recovery. There may be some minor bruising which will fade continuously for a week or two. Many patients can resume normal activities almost immediately.
Laser Vein Removal Results
Although laser therapy many not correct all imperfections of the problem areas, overall the results will be significant. Veins will fade either significantly or completely, resulting in a more uniform and youthful appearance.
If you’re in the San Diego, California area and are interested in eliminating your spider veins, please come see the cosmetic laser specialists at Advanced Eye & Laser Center of California, Inc. Let our highly qualified staff bring out the best in you.
