Dr. Huynh begins by numbing the eyes using eye drop anesthesia. A thin layer of the corneal surface (epithelium) is removed. The VISX STAR S4 is then focused on your cornea for a reshaping process that is complete in just minutes. Your cornea is gently reshaped based on your degree of nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. A special contact lens is placed in the eye to assist healing and protect the cornea, and the other eye is treated with the same process. The epithelium will regrow during the healing process, in just a few days.
Results will vary based on a number of individual factors. Dr. Huynh cannot guarantee your PRK results. Patients with presbyopia may require reading glasses after surgery. Most people return to work within one to three days. As with any surgical procedure, side effects and complications may occur.
PRK is a rapid outpatient procedure, and most patients can be back to work within a few days. You may experience mild discomfort, but soft contact lenses and eye drops will help with the healing process.
